Education & upgrading
Bridge Programme
A structured pathway that helps enrolled midwives upgrade to registered midwifery without leaving the mothers they serve.

Many of Uganda's most experienced midwives entered the profession through the enrolled certificate route. The Bridge Programme exists so that those years of practice can be converted into a recognised registered qualification, unlocking better deployment, supervision roles and pay scales.
NMAU works with training institutions, the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council and facility managers to guide members through admission requirements, study planning and examinations. Members are matched with mentors who have already made the same transition.
The programme deliberately favours part-time and blended study so that midwives can keep working in their facilities while they upgrade — critical in districts where losing a single midwife closes a maternity ward.
